In the late hours of a Friday night in Winnsboro, South Carolina, the life of Altrone T. Burrell, a 45-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short. On March 10, 2023, deputies from the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to his home on Reservoir Road around 11:30 p.m. following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mr.
Burrell deceased, having sustained what appeared to be a fatal gunshot wound.
The initial investigation into the shooting suggested a domestic dispute had escalated to a fatal confrontation. Preliminary information indicated that Mr. Burrell had been involved in a physical altercation with his girlfriend at the time the shooting occurred. Law enforcement officials were able to secure the weapon that was believed to have been used in the incident at the scene. An autopsy was scheduled with Newberry Pathology to officially determine the cause of death.
In the wake of the incident, the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office confirmed that an investigation was underway to uncover the full circumstances surrounding Mr. Burrell's death.
