In the early evening of August 23, 2023, a single act of violence tragically cut short the life of 18-year-old Izaiyah Lopez. A Hispanic/Latino male, Lopez was in the parking lot of a convenience store located in the 6300 block of Rivers Avenue in North Charleston, South Carolina, when the fatal incident occurred. Just before 7:00 p.m., the North Charleston Police Department received calls about a possible shooting and dispatched officers to the scene.
Upon their arrival, officers
discovered Izaiyah Lopez in the parking lot, having sustained an apparent gunshot wound. Despite any potential efforts to render aid, he was found deceased at the scene. The Charleston County Coroner's Office later formally identified the victim and confirmed that a gunshot wound was the cause of his death.
The North Charleston Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the shooting to piece together the events that led to the young man's death and to identify those responsible. As of December 2024, authorities had not publicly announced any arrests in connection with the homicide. The investigation remains active, and law enforcement has encouraged anyone with information regarding the case to come forward to help bring a resolution to the family of Izaiyah Lopez.
