On November 20, 2023, at approximately 9:18 p.m., Beaufort Police officers responded to reports of gunfire at the Forest Park Apartments located at 408 Battery Creek Road. Upon arrival, they discovered 18-year-old Christopher Bowen of St. Helena Island deceased inside a vehicle. Beaufort County Coroner David Ott pronounced Bowen dead at the scene, ruling the death a homicide.
