On the evening of January 1, 2024, 14-year-old African American male Jerrieme “L.J.” Jermaine Washington Jr. was fatally shot while playing video games in the living room of his home on Castle Rock Road in Burton, South Carolina. At approximately 9:38 p.m., gunfire erupted from the roadway, striking the residence and a vehicle parked in the driveway.
