In the summer of 2024, a senseless act of violence cut short the life of 19-year-old Kaylin Nicole Hinson in Dillon, South Carolina. On the morning of June 18th, deputies responded to a call on Florence Avenue and found Kaylin with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services arrived and she was airlifted to a hospital in Florence for treatment.
Within an hour of the shooting, law enforcement located and arrested a suspect in the Latta community.
Juna'ka Jon Joy Bethea, a 23-year-old from Sellers, was taken into custody and initially charged with attempted murder. While Kaylin fought for her life, the legal process against her alleged attacker began.
Tragically, three days after the shooting, on Friday, June 21st, 2024, the Dillon County Coroner notified detectives that Kaylin Nicole Hinson had succumbed to her injuries. Following her death, the charges against Juna'ka Jon Joy Bethea were upgraded to murder. He is currently being held in the Dillon County Detention Center as he awaits a bond hearing for the murder charge. The local sheriff expressed his condolences to Kaylin's family and commended the swift action of the deputies and officers involved in the quick apprehension of the suspect.
