On Saturday, July 6, 2024, the community of Union, South Carolina, faced a somber tragedy when 34-year-old Rodney Cornelius Whitener, a Black male, was found deceased at his residence. Law enforcement officers responded to the scene at 201 Cottage Avenue, where they discovered Whitener’s body near the home. Following the discovery, the Union County Coroner’s Office confirmed that he had succumbed to fatal injuries resulting from gun violence.
