Death by Force

On July 18, 2024, 26-year-old Da’Twan Gatling, a North Charleston Public Works employee, was fatally shot while performing his duties. The incident occurred around 10:46 a.m. on Bayfield Drive, where Gatling was collecting recyclables. After being shot, he attempted to flee the scene in his garbage truck but lost control, resulting in a collision with a tree near Dorchester Road. He was transported to Trident Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
