In Columbia, South Carolina, a tragic event unfolded at an auto-body shop, leading to the death of 47-year-old Henry Chinyerugo Durugbor. The male victim, who was born in Nigeria, was discovered at the business located in the 1700 block of Percival Road after an acquaintance, concerned after not hearing from him, went to check on him. On the morning of July 31, 2024, Richland County Sheriff's Department deputies were called to the scene where they found Durugbor deceased.
Investigators
quickly turned to the security camera footage from the business, which revealed the grim details of what had transpired the evening before. On July 30, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the footage showed Durugbor in a verbal altercation with another man. The argument escalated tragically when the other individual pulled out a firearm and shot Durugbor in the upper body. The shooter was then seen leaving the premises in a vehicle.
The investigation led authorities to identify 64-year-old Michael Harper as the suspect. The day after the discovery of Durugbor's body, deputies spotted Harper's vehicle near O'Neil Court, roughly three miles from the location of the shooting. Law enforcement conducted a traffic stop and took Harper into custody without any resistance. He was subsequently arrested and booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. Harper faces charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He was denied bond and remains in custody.
