On a tragic Saturday evening, the life of 21-year-old Cory Ryder Vickery was cut short. On August 3, 2024, in Easley, South Carolina, Vickery was shot multiple times in the driveway of a residence on Donna Lane. Deputies responded to a 911 call around 9:30 p.m. and found Vickery in the yard with gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
At the time of his death, Vickery was looking forward to becoming a father, as his fiancée was expecting their baby girl in October.
In the wake of the shooting, the Pickens County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Vickery's death. Through the collection of evidence and interviews with individuals associated with both the victim and the suspect, investigators were able to identify a person of interest. The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Sheriff's Office and the Pickens County Coroner's Office. Authorities assured the public that it was an isolated incident and there was no immediate threat to the community.
The investigation led to the arrest of Micah Javon Duckett, a 21-year-old male. Duckett was taken into custody at his residence without incident on August 14, 2024. He has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of Cory Vickery. Following his arrest, Duckett was booked into the Pickens County Detention Center, where he remains in custody after waiving a bond hearing.
