On August 23, 2024, 18-year-old Khanesia Sincere Commander and her 16-year-old half-brother, Ny'heem Burgess, were involved in a tragic incident at the Palmetto Inn on North Washington Street in Sumter, South Carolina. Both teens sustained critical injuries due to the mishandling of a firearm. Khanesia was transported to Prisma Health Tuomey, where she succumbed to her injuries on August 27, 2024. Ny'heem was taken to Prisma Health Richland and passed away on August 28, 2024.
