On a Friday in October, the quiet of Gaffney, South Carolina, was pierced by the discovery of a local man's death. Timothy “Tim” Douglas Anthony, a 58-year-old male, was found deceased in his Piney Knob Drive home on October 11, 2024. The initial assessment by responding emergency services and the deputy coroner suggested that his death was not suspicious, with the belief that he may have suffered a cardiac event, fallen, and hit his head.
However, the narrative took a sharp and
tragic turn when a suspicious wound was discovered after Mr. Anthony's body was released to a funeral home. This finding prompted an autopsy, which revealed a grim truth: Timothy Anthony had sustained multiple gunshot wounds from a small caliber weapon. What was first considered a non-suspicious death was now officially ruled a homicide, launching a full investigation by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.
Despite the initial delay in the investigation, law enforcement was able to quickly pivot and utilize digital technology, including cell phone records and video evidence, to identify a suspect.
