In the quiet town of Amory, Mississippi, the life of 34-year-old Dennis Trenard Ezell, a Black male, was tragically cut short on the evening of February 7, 2023. The fatal incident unfolded near the intersection of J Avenue and 111th Street, where Ezell was shot. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries, leaving a community in mourning and a family seeking justice.
The Monroe County Coroner, Alan Gurley, later confirmed Ezell's identity.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, a suspect, later identified as 40-year-old Jermaine McIntosh, turned himself in to the Amory Police Department. An investigation revealed that an ongoing dispute between McIntosh and Ezell's family had preceded the deadly encounter. The community's cooperation with law enforcement was instrumental in the quick identification of the suspect. McIntosh was subsequently arrested and charged with murder, with his bond set at $300,000. He was booked into the Monroe County Jail as the case prepared to move through the legal system.
