On April 30, 2023, 16-year-old Gulfport resident JaKamori "Kamori" Lake was fatally shot in the head at her apartment in the Gables Apartments complex on 32nd Street. She was transported by a private vehicle to Memorial Hospital at Gulfport, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. At the time of her death, Lake was three and a half months pregnant; her unborn child did not survive.
