In the late hours of a warm August night in Gulfport, Mississippi, the life of 19-year-old Alexis McLaurin was tragically cut short. Known affectionately as 'Big Lex' to her friends and family, she was a young woman with aspirations of becoming a certified nursing assistant and eventually a registered nurse. She was visiting a friend's apartment in the Bayou View neighborhood, enjoying a get-together with other young people.
