In the quiet city of Meridian, Mississippi, the life of 65-year-old Billy Ralph Mitchell was tragically cut short on October 2, 2023. A Black male known in his community, Mitchell was found deceased at the intersection of 17th Street and 26th Avenue, the victim of fatal gun violence. Mitchell, who worked as a concrete finisher and light laborer when he was able, was a father to four children: Johnny Jones of Hattiesburg, Mitchell Neal of Meridian, LaPorche Jones of Gulfport, and Kalencia Mitchell of Meridian. He is also survived by a brother, Michael Mitchell of Macon, GA; two sisters, Brenda Davis of Jackson, and Sandra Mitchell of Meridian; and six grandchildren. His family and friends gathered to lay him to rest on October 14, 2023, with funeral services held at New Life Independent Church and burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
