In the early hours of Memorial Day, the city of Canton, Mississippi, was rattled by an act of violence that claimed the life of one of its residents. Nathan Smith, a 50-year-old Black/African American male, was found shot multiple times near the intersection of George Washington Avenue and Boyd Street. The fatal shooting occurred at approximately 4 a.m. on May 27, 2024, marking the fifth homicide in the city for that year.
