In the fall of 2014, a senseless act of violence cut short the life of a young boy in Canton, Mississippi. Thirteen-year-old Muhammed Saeed was working alongside his father at their family-owned convenience store on the evening of October 27th. The young male was behind the counter when two individuals entered the store. Without any warning or demand for money, one of the men tragically shot the teen in the head.
The harrowing events were captured on the store's surveillance camera, providing critical evidence for investigators. The footage showed one man, later identified as Tony Terrell Clark, firing the fatal shot. As Muhammed's father ran for his life, he too was shot by Clark. The assailants, Tony Clark and his nephew Tiante Clark, then attempted to cover their faces and stepped over the young boy's body to get to the cash register before fleeing the scene.
The powerful combination of the surveillance footage and the eyewitness account from Muhammed's father quickly led law enforcement to their suspects. Tony Clark was arrested and charged with capital murder. During his trial, the prosecution presented the chilling video evidence, which starkly illustrated the callous nature of the crime. The jury needed just over an hour to find Tony Clark guilty of capital murder.
Following the guilty verdict, the jury was tasked with determining Clark's sentence. After deliberation, they returned with a sentence of death. While Tony Clark faced the gravest consequences for his actions, his nephew and accomplice, Tiante Clark, was also set to stand trial for his involvement in the brutal murder.
