In the early morning hours of June 20, 2024, the life of 33-year-old Chyniquia Johnson was tragically cut short in Greenville, Mississippi. Police responded to reports of gunshots in the 1100 block of Cottage Drive around 2 a.m. and discovered a grim scene. Underneath the carport of a residence, they found the bodies of a man and a woman.
The female victim was identified as Chyniquia Johnson of Greenville. The man, identified as 32-year-old Albert Lee of Cleveland, was determined to be the suspect in what investigators have called an apparent murder-suicide. Lee also died at the scene.
According to reports, Johnson and Lee had been in a long-term relationship that had ended a few months prior to the fatal incident. Witnesses reported seeing Lee in the neighborhood before the shooting occurred.
In the wake of the tragedy, Greenville Police Chief Marcus Turner described the event as a 'tragic occurrence' and urged the community to recognize the importance of addressing domestic violence. He encouraged victims in abusive relationships to seek help. As the suspect died at the scene, there were no arrests made in connection with Johnson's death.
