On August 25, 2024, 32-year-old Timothy Nathaniel Downs was fatally shot during an altercation at the One Stop convenience store on Mississippi Highway 442 in Schlater, Mississippi. Leflore County deputies responded to reports of a shooting around 9 a.m. and discovered Downs deceased at the scene. A 24-year-old man from Schlater was also injured in the incident and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
