On a Sunday morning in late summer, the community of Schlater, Mississippi, was shaken by a violent altercation that ended in the death of 32-year-old Timothy Nathaniel Downs. A White male, Downs was fatally shot on August 25, 2024, during a dispute at the One Stop convenience store located on Mississippi Highway 442. The incident, which unfolded around 9 a.m., also left a 24-year-old man from Schlater injured.
