In the early evening of September 23, 2024, a dispute on a basketball court in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, turned deadly, ending the life of 23-year-old Jaylen Larry. An African American male, Larry was at the Hazlehurst Softball Complex basketball court when a verbal altercation reportedly broke out between him and another individual. The argument escalated tragically, and Larry was struck by multiple bullets around 7 p.m.
