On the evening of February 18, 2023, a dispute outside a liquor store on Miller Road in Flint Township, Michigan, turned fatal for 57-year-old Carl Edward Jones. The Flint resident was shot and killed in an incident that stemmed from a disagreement involving a woman.
Law enforcement officials investigating the shooting quickly identified a suspect. Clifford O'Neal Harvey, a 65-year-old man also from Flint, was taken into custody in connection with Jones's death.
The investigation revealed that Harvey had arranged to meet his girlfriend at a nearby motel that weekend, but she failed to appear.
Following his arrest, Harvey was charged with first-degree premeditated homicide. After a trial in Genesee County, a jury found Clifford O'Neal Harvey guilty on all counts, including first-degree murder, on October 24, 2024. The conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Funeral services for Carl Edward Jones were held on March 1, 2023, at Triumph Church in Flint.
