He was a beacon of joy in his family, someone whose mother, Latresa Mines, described as so lovable he could change the feeling of the entire house just by being there. That night, surrounded by his cousins, he was simply being a kid, having fun and enjoying his time.
The ordinary evening was shattered in an instant when a vehicle, described only as a small car of an unknown color, drove by. Shots rang out from the car, and in the chaos that followed, Latrelle was struck. His parents rushed him to a nearby hospital, but the bright light of his young life was extinguished during surgery. The senseless act of violence left his family, and the community, reeling in shock and grief. His grandmother, Evette Mines, lamented the tragic reality that a child couldn't even play outside without the threat of being killed.
In the wake of the tragedy, the Detroit Police Department began an investigation, canvassing the neighborhood and pleading with the public for any information that could lead to the perpetrators. Despite their efforts, and the heartfelt pleas from Latrelle's family for someone to come forward, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The children who witnessed the shooting were reportedly in shock and could not provide a detailed description of the vehicle or the occupants. While some sources suggested the shooting may not have been random and that Latrelle might have been targeted following a dispute with another teenager with possible gang affiliations, this has not been officially confirmed. A reward of up to $2,500 has been offered by Crime Stoppers for any information that leads to an arrest in the case that cut short the life of a young boy who just wanted to skate.
