On a tragic day in February 2024, the life of 34-year-old Eboni Moore-Askew was cut short in her Warren, Michigan home. The evening of Friday, February 16th, ended in bloodshed when police discovered her in an upstairs bedroom, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. This devastating event unfolded in a home that was no stranger to domestic turmoil, as officers had previously responded to multiple domestic violence calls at the residence.
In fact, earlier that very day, police had been at the house for a domestic disturbance involving Moore-Askew and her husband.
At the scene of the fatal shooting, authorities found Eboni’s husband, 41-year-old Antonio Askew. He surrendered a firearm to the officers and admitted to the shooting, though he initially claimed it was an act of self-defense. Antonio Askew was arrested and subsequently charged with second-degree murder and felony firearm possession in connection with his wife's death. The loss of Eboni Moore-Askew left a void in the lives of her four children, who were 15, 14, 11, and 8 years old at the time.
Following his arrest, Antonio Askew was arraigned in the 37th District Court, where a judge set his bond at $500,000. As a condition of any potential release, he was ordered to wear a GPS tether. The legal process continued with a probable cause hearing on March 5, 2024, and a preliminary examination on March 12, 2024. The case was then bound over to the Macomb County Circuit Court for trial, with an arraignment scheduled before a judge on June 24, 2024. Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido affirmed a commitment to seeking justice for victims of domestic violence in the wake of this tragedy.
