In the early hours of March 7, 2024, the life of 18-year-old Terrance 'TJ' Coker Jr. was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting on the streets of Detroit, Michigan. A Black / African American male, Coker was a promising senior at Davison High School, known for his athletic prowess in both football and basketball, with graduation just two months away.
The incident unfolded around 12:25 a.m. near the intersection of West McNichols Road and the John C. Lodge Freeway.
Coker was driving a silver Lexus when he reportedly had a verbal exchange with individuals in a white SUV. As he attempted to drive away, the occupants of the white SUV pursued him, firing multiple shots into his vehicle. The gunfire proved fatal, and Coker died at the scene.
In the wake of the shooting, Detroit police launched an investigation that led them to a white Chevrolet Equinox, believed to be the vehicle involved in the homicide. A police chase ensued, culminating in the apprehension of four individuals who attempted to flee on foot.
