On March 22, 2024, 25-year-old Ruby Garcia was found deceased on the shoulder of southbound US-131 near Leonard Street in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the head. Investigators determined that Garcia had been in a vehicle with her boyfriend, 25-year-old Brandon Ortiz-Vite, when an argument escalated, leading Ortiz-Vite to shoot her. He then removed her body from the car and left the scene.
