In the summer of 2011, a tragic event unfolded in Grand Rapids, Michigan, forever altering the lives of several families. Ten-year-old Marissa Lynn Emkens was a young girl full of life, known for her helpful and sweet nature at North Park Elementary School where she had just completed the fourth grade. She was so eager to help that she would ask her mother to pick her up late so she could volunteer in the school's office, greeting visitors and offering comfort to younger students.
