In the quiet community of Grand Haven, Michigan, the long and intertwined lives of Donna Lee Kitzmiller and her husband, William, came to a heart-wrenching end on September 28, 2024. William made a 911 call at approximately 8:58 a.m., his words painting a grim picture of the events that had transpired within their home. He informed the dispatcher that he had provided a 'merciful ending' to his wife's suffering from her debilitating illness. In the same call, he declared his intention to take his own life.
The call ended abruptly with the sound of a gunshot, prompting an immediate police response. Upon their arrival at the couple's Grand Haven Township home, law enforcement found both Donna and William deceased. The subsequent investigation confirmed the tragic sequence of events: William had fatally shot his wife before turning the gun on himself. In a note left on the kitchen table, he had documented some of his thoughts, providing a somber final testament to the couple's story.
