On the evening of Thursday, October 24, 2024, a young life was abruptly cut short in Saginaw, Michigan. Diontae DeMarcus Calvin Lorenzo Levell Laury Jr., a 21-year-old Black male known affectionately to his family as 'Lil' D' and to his friends as 'Munk,' was found lying in the roadway at the intersection of Douglass and Youmans streets. Police responded to a call around 8:15 p.m. and discovered Laury Jr. had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Born in Saginaw on January 5, 2003, to Denise Barnes and Diontae Laury, Sr., he was a lifelong resident of the city. Described as a God-fearing man with a beautiful smile, he was known for his willingness to help others. He was a devoted father to his daughter, Milana. Laury Jr. worked at a McDonald's on Dixie Highway and also assisted his grandfather with lawn care. He was remembered for his love of family and church.
The investigation into the homicide is ongoing, but authorities have not yet publicly identified any suspects in connection with the shooting.
