On the morning of New Year's Day 2023, a tragic and violent incident unfolded within a home in Clinton, Maryland, leaving two people dead and two others wounded. Responding to a call at approximately 6:00 a.m. on Lazy Acres Road, Prince George's County police discovered the body of 42-year-old Monique Duncan, along with that of 42-year-old Maurice Moore.
Duncan and Moore, who were in a relationship and resided at the home, were both pronounced deceased at the scene.
An autopsy later revealed that Monique Duncan died from gunshot wounds. Maurice Moore's death was attributed to a stab wound. In addition to the two fatalities, officers found two other individuals inside the residence with injuries. One, a juvenile, and the other, an adult, had both sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and were transported to a hospital for treatment in stable condition.
Investigators quickly determined that the incident was domestic in nature and that all individuals involved were known to each other. The Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Authorities have indicated that they are not searching for any suspects in connection with the case. Preliminarily, detectives are exploring the possibility that the events transpired as a case of self-defense or the defense of others. The investigation remains ongoing as they work with the State's Attorney's Office to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the fatal encounter and whether any charges are appropriate.
