In the winter of 2023, the life of 19-year-old Xavien Bert Carroll was cut short in a burst of violence that also claimed the life of another young man and left a third seriously injured. On the afternoon of February 13th, gunshots erupted on Shelton Court in Indian Head, Maryland. Inside a car, Carroll, along with 23-year-old Amonte Martez Green and another 23-year-old male, were struck by gunfire.
Following the shooting, the three victims fled in their vehicle, traveling several miles
before they were found in the area of Route 210 and Laurel Drive. When Charles County Sheriff's officers arrived, they found Xavien Bert Carroll deceased at the scene. Amonte Martez Green was rushed to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries a short time later. The third man was also transported to a hospital in serious condition.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly pointed to a suspect. The following day, on February 14, detectives with the Charles County Sheriff's Office arrested 19-year-old Jayden Kevin Craig of Indian Head in connection with the triple shooting. Craig was taken into custody without incident in Pomfret, Maryland. He was subsequently charged with a litany of serious offenses, including first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and first-degree assault. At the time of his arrest for the murders, Craig was on probation for an unrelated firearms charge from June 2022. Following the charges, he was held without bond at the Charles County Detention Center.
