On a tragic afternoon in Indian Head, Maryland, Amonte Martez Green, a 23-year-old male, was fatally shot on February 13, 2023. The incident unfolded on Shelton Court, where Green and two other men were shot while inside a vehicle. Following the shooting, the three victims attempted to flee in the car.
Law enforcement officers later discovered the vehicle several miles away, near the intersection of Route 210 and Laurel Drive in Bryans Road.
Inside, they found the three men suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim, identified as 19-year-old Xavien Bert Carroll of Nanjemoy, was pronounced dead at the scene. Green, a resident of Waldorf, was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. The third man, also 23 years old, was hospitalized in serious condition.
The day after the shooting, the Charles County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with the double murder. Jayden Kevin Craig, a 19-year-old from Indian Head, was taken into custody without incident in Pomfret, Maryland. Craig was subsequently charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and first-degree assault, among other related charges. He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center without bond. At the time of his arrest, Craig was on probation for an unrelated firearms violation that occurred in June 2022.
