A simmering dispute over a parking spot on a Wednesday afternoon in February escalated into a fatal encounter, leaving a family shattered. On February 22, 2023, 48-year-old Sharod Moore was shot inside a residence in the unit block of Park Place in Brooklyn, a neighborhood in the Pumphrey area of Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The male victim was discovered with a gunshot wound to his head and was rushed to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore in critical condition.
He succumbed to his injuries the following day, February 23, 2023, and his death was investigated as a homicide.
When Anne Arundel County police officers arrived at the scene around 2:30 p.m., they found the suspect waiting for them outside the home. The man, identified as 70-year-old George Albert Summers, was taken into custody without incident. Investigators soon learned that the fatal conflict was a domestic dispute between a stepfather and his stepson. Summers admitted to shooting Moore over an ongoing argument about a parking space.
The victim's own mother, who was also Summers' wife, witnessed the events leading up to the tragedy. She informed officers that her husband had repeatedly asked Moore to move his vehicle from Summers' usual parking spot throughout the day. Moore was unable to comply because he could not find his car keys. This seemingly trivial matter caused Summers to erupt in anger. He threatened to break down his stepson's bedroom door and kill him. Shortly after, a gunshot rang out from Moore's room, forever altering the lives of everyone involved.
The legal proceedings that followed brought a measure of closure to the case. On March 14, 2024, George Albert Summers entered a guilty plea to charges of Second-Degree Murder and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Violent Crime. Subsequently, he was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the murder of his stepson. The terms of his sentence stipulate that the first five years must be served without the possibility of parole.
