In the early hours of January 5, 2020, a shooting shattered the quiet of a residential neighborhood. Responding to a call at approximately 1:15 a.m. in the 300 block of Audrey Avenue in Brooklyn Park, Maryland, officers discovered a 20-year-old male, Elias Armando Maldonado Garcilazo, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Emergency services transported him to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Maldonado Garcilazo
succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. An autopsy later confirmed that the cause of his death was a gunshot wound, and the manner of death was officially ruled a homicide. At the time of the incident, it was reported that he was walking home when the fatal shooting occurred.
Homicide detectives from the Anne Arundel County Police Department promptly began an investigation into the killing. Authorities interviewed several witnesses in the immediate aftermath of the event. However, the case has remained unsolved. A year after his death, police issued a renewed plea to the public for assistance, hoping that the passage of time might encourage individuals with information to come forward. A reward of up to $10,000 has been offered for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Elias Garcilazo. The investigation remains active and ongoing, with authorities urging anyone with knowledge of the case to contact the Anne Arundel County Homicide Unit or to provide anonymous tips through Metro Crime Stoppers. To date, there have been no arrests made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with this case.
