Demetris Kendrick Henry Sr., a 25-year-old male, was fatally shot in Baltimore, Maryland, on the morning of April 24, 2021. The incident occurred shortly before 8:30 a.m. on the 3400 block of Fairview Avenue in the Forest Park apartment that he shared with his roommate. A verbal dispute between the two men escalated, tragically ending with Henry being shot.
He was transported to Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
More than two months after the shooting, an arrest was made in connection with the death. The investigation led police to identify Jonathan Lee Bowman, who was Henry's roommate at the time, as the suspect. Bowman was subsequently taken into custody. The motive for the shooting was reported to have stemmed from the verbal argument between the two men.
Initially, Jonathan Lee Bowman was tried by a jury and found guilty of second-degree murder and firearm use in a felony violent crime. In August 2022, he was sentenced to 60 years in prison. However, in a later proceeding in August 2024, Bowman, then 28, accepted a plea agreement. Under the terms of the deal, he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and firearm use in a felony violent crime. The agreement stipulated a sentence of 52 years, with all but 19 years suspended, to be followed by five years of supervised probation. The first five years of his prison term are to be served without the possibility of parole. During the court proceedings, Henry's mother remembered her son as a kind and caring person, expressing that while the legal process was over, she would never forgive Bowman for his actions. Bowman offered an apology to Henry's family.
