In the early morning hours of June 9, 2023, the life of 22-year-old Marquise Deontae Jackson, a male, came to a violent end in Waldorf, Maryland. His death was the culmination of a series of events that began with an argument at a nightclub in Washington, D.C., and escalated into a tragic double homicide.
Earlier that morning, Jackson and 24-year-old Deangelo C'Quan Beale were at the same nightclub where an altercation occurred between them.
Following the dispute, Jackson, along with four accomplices, allegedly abducted Beale at gunpoint. They then drove him to his apartment in Waldorf. While some of the suspects took Beale's girlfriend at gunpoint inside the residence to demand property, Jackson and another suspect remained in a vehicle with Beale. It was during this time that Beale managed to get ahold of a firearm and shot Jackson.
Upon hearing the gunshot, the other suspects who were inside the apartment came out and fatally shot Beale in the parking lot of the apartment complex on Lake Drive. After the shooting, the suspects fled the scene, dropping off the wounded Jackson at a nearby hospital. Despite medical efforts, Marquise Deontae Jackson succumbed to his gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased.
A three-month investigation into the double homicide led to the arrests of four individuals on August 31, 2023. The suspects were identified as 18-year-old Desmond Evans of Washington, D.C., 23-year-old Kevon Jackson of Hyattsville, 19-year-old Ramel Henderson of Bowie, and a 16-year-old male from Washington, D.C. During the arrests, authorities executed search warrants that resulted in the seizure of 14 firearms, a significant amount of marijuana, and other evidence connecting the suspects to the murders. In a later development, one of the accomplices, 17-year-old Nijuan Wilson, pleaded guilty to murder in May 2024. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison with all but 30 years suspended, to be followed by five years of probation upon his release.
