It was approximately 11:05 p.m. on June 13, 2023, when patrolling officers from the Bladensburg Police Department happened upon a suspicious vehicle. Their routine patrol took a grim turn as they approached the car and discovered the lifeless body of a young man inside. The victim, a 28-year-old Black/African American male named Daquan Givens-Coley of Mt. Rainier, had been shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit was called in to take the lead on the investigation, a standard procedure for homicides within the town of Bladensburg. Details that emerged from the initial investigation painted a chilling picture of Givens-Coley's final moments.
He was found to be partially handcuffed, and investigators recovered two firearms from the vehicle, described as a Glock and an AK-style pistol. These discoveries hinted at a violent and complex encounter, leaving detectives with the task of unraveling the motive behind the brutal slaying.
