On the night of January 1, 2025, 36-year-old Oluwatosin Adetula, a Black male rideshare driver from Hyattsville, Maryland, was shot multiple times while working in Cottage City, near the D.C.-Maryland border. Responding officers found him in a parking lot along the 3300 block of Bladensburg Road around 10:40 p.m. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries on January 7.
