In the early hours of July 31, 2023, tragedy struck in a Baltimore neighborhood, claiming the life of Desmond Chandler, a 22-year-old Black male. The quiet of the night was shattered by the sound of gunfire, a sadly familiar occurrence for some residents. When police responded to a ShotSpotter alert just before 1 a.m. in the 1200 block of Oakhurst Place, they discovered a chaotic and violent scene.

Amidst the confusion, Chandler was found with a life-threatening gunshot wound to the head. Two other young women, aged 17 and 21, were also victims of the shooting, though their injuries were thankfully not life-threatening. All three were rushed to a nearby hospital, but despite the efforts of medical personnel, Desmond Chandler succumbed to his severe injuries and was pronounced deceased.

In the wake of the shooting, Baltimore City Police launched a homicide investigation. Detectives began the arduous process of piecing together the events that led to Chandler's untimely death. As of now, the investigation remains open, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the murder.

The case has left a family grieving and a community searching for answers. In an effort to bring those responsible to justice, Metro Crime Stoppers has offered a reward of up to $8,000 for any information that leads to an arrest and the filing of charges. Law enforcement continues to appeal to the public for assistance, hoping that someone will come forward with the crucial piece of information that will help them solve this senseless act of violence and provide some measure of closure for Desmond Chandler's loved ones.
