In the early morning hours of August 20, 2023, violence erupted in the Mount Vernon neighborhood of Baltimore, claiming the life of 25-year-old Navontay Ronnie Whitener. The fatal incident unfolded around 3:05 a.m. in a parking lot in the 800 block of Guilford Avenue, where police responded to a ShotSpotter alert and reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers discovered a grim scene with two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
Navontay Whitener was found with critical
injuries and, despite immediate medical attention, he was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim, identified as 26-year-old Kashay Tanae Davis, was also found shot at the same location. She was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition and placed on life support. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries the following day.
The Baltimore Police Department's Homicide Unit promptly launched an investigation into the double homicide. At this time, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in connection with the shooting. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains active and ongoing. Law enforcement officials have urged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and contact homicide detectives to assist in bringing those responsible to justice.
