In the quiet community of Aberdeen, Maryland, the life of 23-year-old Darius Pittman, a Black male, was cut short in a targeted act of violence. On the afternoon of Sunday, September 10, 2023, police responded to a call for a cardiac arrest at a residence on the 500 block of Walker Street. Upon arrival, they discovered Pittman suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators with the Aberdeen Police Department quickly determined that the shooting was not a random act and began a homicide investigation. It is believed that Pittman was killed on the morning of September 9, 2023, the day before his body was found. His mother, Eldonette Pittman, has spoken out about her overwhelming grief and has pleaded with the public for any information that could lead to the capture of her son's killer. She described her son as a sweet, compassionate, smart, and spiritual person who deserved to live.
The investigation into Pittman's death, which was the only homicide in Aberdeen in 2023, remains ongoing. Detectives have traced some of his last known movements, determining that he had visited Baltimore City late in the evening on September 8, 2023, before returning to Harford County. Despite their efforts, police have received few leads in the case.
As of early 2024, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Darius Pittman. In an effort to generate new leads, Metro Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case. The Aberdeen Police Department and Pittman's family continue to urge anyone with knowledge of the shooting to come forward and help bring those responsible to justice.
