It was there, on June 13, 2024, that 48-year-old Sheldon Proctor of Waldorf was fatally shot. The event, typically a peaceful convergence for those with a shared passion for automobiles, was held in the parking lot of the Manokeek Village shopping center.
That night, the friendly atmosphere was shattered around 11:45 p.m. by the sound of gunfire.
When police arrived at the 7000 block of Berry Road, they discovered Mr. Proctor and another man, 55-year-old Patrick Savoy of Charlotte Hall, with gunshot wounds. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. A third individual was also injured in the shooting but was able to transport himself to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Sheldon Proctor was known by his family as a kind-hearted man with a warm smile who loved everyone. He had a passion for cars, a love instilled in him by his father from a young age. A dirt bike accident as a teenager had left him paralyzed from the chest down, requiring him to use a motorized scooter. Despite his disability, he remained an active participant in the car community.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit launched an investigation. Detectives are actively working to determine a motive and to identify any suspect or suspects involved in the double homicide. As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made.
