Gerald Leo Wright, aged 46, was a dedicated officer of the Chicago Police Department, having served for nearly 20 years. On the night of August 6, 1993, Officer Wright was off duty and had just finished his shift. He and his partner, Patrolman James Evitt, decided to visit Pat’s Food Store at 934 West 79th Street, a place they often frequented after their shifts.
