On a Saturday morning in Oxon Hill, Maryland, a charity football game at Potomac High School turned into a scene of violence that claimed the life of 33-year-old Christopher Mozee of District Heights. The tragic events unfolded on June 15, 2024, at approximately 11:20 a.m., shattering the festive atmosphere of the community event.
Mozee was in the bleachers, watching the game, when an argument is believed to have broken out. Gunshots suddenly rang out, causing panic among the spectators.
When the chaos subsided, Mozee was found suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate response from emergency services and his quick transport to a nearby hospital, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead a short time later. A child was also struck by the gunfire, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries in the crossfire.
The Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit launched an immediate and intensive investigation into the shooting. Their efforts quickly identified a suspect, 29-year-old Dajuon Meniefield of Bowie. It was determined that Mozee and Meniefield were known to each other, and the preliminary motive for the shooting is believed to have been a dispute between the two men.
With the assistance of the Hagerstown Police Department, detectives from the Prince George's County Police Department's Fugitive Unit were able to locate and apprehend Dajuon Meniefield. He was taken into custody and has since been charged with first and second-degree murder, along with other related charges, in connection with the death of Christopher Mozee. The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting.
