On a late Monday evening in Baltimore, the life of Isaiah Zachary Gaines, a 20-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short. On June 24, 2024, at approximately 10:57 p.m., the sharp sound of gunfire pierced the night in the 2000 block of McKean Avenue. This prompted a ShotSpotter alert, which quickly brought Western District patrol officers to the scene.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Gaines suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Despite the immediate response, his injuries were too severe. Medics who arrived at the location pronounced him deceased right there on the street. The area was cordoned off as homicide detectives began their investigation into the fatal shooting.
In the days that followed, the Baltimore Police Department identified Isaiah Zachary Gaines as one of the city's recent homicide victims. As of now, the investigation into his death is ongoing.
