On the morning of Thursday, August 29, 2024, 60-year-old Civil Jean Calixte was fatally shot in what authorities are investigating as a murder-suicide in Rockville, Maryland. The male victim was discovered by Montgomery County Police officers around 7:50 a.m. in the 14900 block of Southlawn Lane, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel who rendered aid, Calixte was transported to a local hospital where he was
pronounced dead.
According to witness reports, a suspect was seen fleeing the scene in a gray Toyota Tacoma. A lookout was issued for the vehicle, which an officer later spotted near the intersection of Avery and Norbeck Roads. As the officer conducted a felony traffic stop, a gunshot was heard from within the truck. The driver, identified as 53-year-old Dario Villard of Laurel, was found inside with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Villard was taken to a hospital where he later died. A handgun was recovered from his vehicle.
The investigation into the tragic events revealed a deeper story. Detectives learned that Villard had an active warrant for his arrest from the Laurel Police Department for attempted first-degree murder. This warrant was connected to a domestic-related shooting that had occurred the previous night, Wednesday, August 28. Laurel detectives responded to the scene of Villard's death and linked his Toyota Tacoma to that prior incident, where a woman was shot and left in critical but stable condition. Both Calixte and Villard were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsies. Villard's death is being investigated as a suicide.
