Tyreke Basey Brown, a 22-year-old Black male, was fatally shot outside the Hammerjacks music venue located in the 1300 block of Russell Street. He was discovered by police at approximately 1:02 a.m. suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical services treated him at the scene before transporting him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Brown, who was visiting family in the country, was known affectionately as 'Basey.' Friends and family described him as having a mild temperament, a kind heart, and a warm spirit. He had gone to Hammerjacks that night to see a favorite artist, an outing that turned into a harrowing ordeal. His family was left grappling with the sudden and violent loss, compounded by the logistical challenge of returning his body to Jamaica for burial. A GoFundMe campaign was organized to help with the associated expenses.
The Baltimore Police Department's Homicide Unit is actively investigating the shooting. However, as of early September 2024, authorities had not publicly identified any suspects or determined a motive for the killing.
