In the small town of Kitzmiller, Maryland, the morning of September 24, 2024, was shattered by a house fire on East Main Street. When firefighters arrived, they made a grim discovery in the back of the residence: the body of 79-year-old Juanita Katherine James. An investigation quickly revealed that a fire was not the cause of her death; she had sustained a fatal gunshot wound, and her death was ruled a homicide.
