On a Thursday evening in Annapolis, Maryland, 59-year-old Allison Faye McIntyre was found shot in her car in the parking lot of the Annapolis Marketplace on Forest Drive. The incident, which occurred on October 3, 2024, unfolded in the busy lot of a Safeway grocery store. When police responded to reports of gunfire, they discovered McIntyre in her vehicle, where she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation quickly led to a person of interest, 49-year-old Monet Thompson of
Annapolis. Detectives were able to identify her through surveillance footage from an Annapolis City transit bus that was parked near McIntyre’s car. The footage showed a woman, later identified as Thompson, get into the passenger side of McIntyre's gray Honda. Shortly after, the car began to move before braking abruptly. Thompson was then seen exiting the vehicle and fleeing in her own blue Toyota Camry. Thanks to this evidence and tips from the public, an arrest warrant was issued, and Thompson was arrested overnight by a SWAT team.
Further investigation revealed that the two women were not strangers; in fact, McIntyre was a mental health counselor for Thompson at the Arundel Lodge behavioral health clinic. On the day of the shooting, McIntyre’s daughter, Desiree, said her mother was on her way to help Thompson get gas for her car, which she claimed had broken down. Desiree was on the phone with her mother when Thompson got into the car. She heard her mother ask which gas station to go to, followed by a few quiet 'okays' before the line went silent. She then overheard someone asking if her mother was okay and a mention of gunshots before the call disconnected.
Monet Thompson was charged with first and second-degree murder and assault. She is being held without bond at the Jennifer Road Detention Center. Police have stated they do not believe the shooting was a random act of violence. The case took another turn when it was revealed that at the time of her arrest for McIntyre's murder, Thompson was already a person of interest in a separate homicide that occurred on September 26, 2024. She was later also charged with the murder of her boyfriend, John Logan, in that case. During the investigation into McIntyre's death, when a detective informed Thompson they were collecting her DNA for 'the homicide,' she reportedly responded, 'Which one?'.
