In the spring of 2023, a quiet neighborhood on the east side of Madison, Wisconsin, was disturbed by a grim discovery. On April 16th, authorities were called to a home where they found the bodies of a long-married couple. Fae M. Niglis, a 71-year-old female, was found deceased inside the residence. Her death was not of natural causes.
Subsequent investigation by the Dane County Medical Examiner's Office would reveal a tragic and violent end to her life.
They determined that Fae Niglis died as a result of "homicidal violence." In the same home, her husband was also found deceased. Authorities later confirmed that he had taken his own life.
The preliminary findings from the investigation pointed towards a murder-suicide. Police officials indicated that there were no signs of a forced entry into the couple's home, and they were not seeking any other suspects in connection with the deaths. The incident was contained to the residence, and there was no perceived threat to the wider community. The case, as presented by the authorities, appeared to be a contained domestic tragedy, leaving behind questions and sorrow for those who knew the elderly couple. No arrests were made as the sole suspect was also deceased.
