In the early morning hours of April 23, 2023, the life of 40-year-old Deshun Jackson, a Black/African American man, was tragically cut short in a Kenosha, Wisconsin apartment. Kenosha police were dispatched to an apartment complex near 60th and Sheridan around 2 a.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Jackson inside one of the apartments, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by the officials on the scene, his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The initial investigation by the Kenosha Police Department suggested that the shooting was not a random act of violence. Detectives believed the incident was contained within the apartment and likely stemmed from an argument. Jackson was remembered in a GoFundMe campaign as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His obituary described him as a charismatic man who was the life of the party and the beating heart of his family. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Bulls and cherished spending time with his friends and family, especially his only grandchild.
Within days of the shooting, investigators identified a suspect in Jackson's death. A warrant was issued for the arrest of Antonio D. Summers, a 36-year-old resident of Illinois. A nationwide alert was issued for Summers, and on June 3, 2023, he was apprehended in Chicago by the Chicago Police Department. Summers is facing charges of first-degree intentional homicide, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm by a felon. He is currently being held in Illinois, pending extradition to Wisconsin to face the charges related to the death of Deshun Jackson.
